The thing I like best about Golden Poppies is that it seems to make people happy. So many people have stopped in front of this painting and smiled, and that makes me smile too.
I love watching flowers move in the wind—the way they bob and tilt and seem to move together without ever moving quite the same way. It's one of those simple things that makes me feel peaceful. I actually don't like cut flowers very much because they just sit there. To me, nature feels most alive when it's in motion.
That's something I'm always trying to capture in my paintings. I want them to flow or sweep or swirl. In Golden Poppies, I love the way the orange and yellow blooms move against the blue and the stems seem to bend in the breeze. Maybe that's why this painting makes people happy. It feels like a sunny day with the wind blowing.
Fine art print from an original watercolor painting. Available in 11×14, 16×20 and 24×30 inches. Prints include a white border and are sold unframed.
