Madeiran Cliffs

from $55.00

Madeiran Cliffs was inspired by the dramatic coastline of Madeira, Portugal, from photographs taken during my brother and sister-in-law's anniversary trip to the island. I was drawn to the massive dark cliffs pushing into the sea and the way the rugged green landscape seemed to disappear into the distance.

Rather than recreating a particular moment of light, I used watercolor to explore the shifting color and atmosphere of the place—layering earthy browns and greens against cool blues, violets, and unexpected passages of gold. Loose washes, granulation, and expressive brushwork give the landscape a sense of weather and movement while preserving the character of the original watercolor.

Fine art print from an original watercolor painting. Available in 11×14, 16×20 and 24×30 inches. Prints include a white border and are sold unframed.
