Rainlight

from $55.00

Rainlight grew out of my fascination with things that glow through gloaming. This lily pond was draped in rainy gloom and half-light, but the reflections seemed to give the water an internal glow. At the same time, raindrops were breaking the surface everywhere, so even in all that quiet grayness, nothing felt completely still.

I've been fascinated by that relationship between light and atmosphere for a long time. When I was a kid, my dad took me to see Monet's water lilies in New York City. I fell in love with Impressionism and with the idea that the quality of the light could completely change the feeling of a place.

That's what I was chasing here—the glow coming through the gloom, and the rain turning still water into something alive and moving.

Fine art print from an original watercolor painting. Available in 11×14, 16×20 and 24×30 inches. Prints include a white border and are sold unframed.
